Ruston & Hornsby 0-4-0 Diesel Locomotive
Ruston & Hornsby 0-4-0 Diesel Locomotive
At the start of September 2020, the Museum took delivery of its first locomotive and three wagons from the Netherlands!
The loco is an 0-4-0 Ruston & Hornsby LBT, Work's No 371932, the first of the LBT type (for surface use with cab), built in 1954. Fitted with an angled body casing and wide cab windows, later versions had box-like body casings and smaller rubber-sealed cab windows.
Our 3½ ton machine is powered by a water-cooled RH 3VSH diesel engine delivering 30hp. Drive is taken through a hydraulic three speed box with chains delivering to the axles.
She was originally supplied to the Royal Netherlands Airforce ammunition supply depot with two other LBTs, all of which survived into preservation in 1998.
The loco is in good condition and a credit to her previous owners in preservation.
