What To See:
Our Glyn Valley Tramway & Industrial Heritage Museum is established in the Old Tramway Engine Shed at Glyn Ceiriog and on the adjacent former station yard and nearby tramway coal wharf.
The Museum has an extensive archive for research study and a significant number of interpreted displays of historical records, artefacts, photographs, literature, ephemera, models, tools and equipment associated with the former Glyn Valley Tramway and the industries of the Ceiriog Valley that the tramway served from 1873 until its closure in 1935.
In addition, visitors can view:
the restored GVT Engine Shed itself, now a Grade II listed building;
a restored Hendre Quarry Tipper Wagon*;
a replica GVT / Cambrian Quarry Slate Wagon;
a Ruston & Hornsby LBT 0-4-0 Diesel Locomotive;
the GVT station yard with recreated platform, running-in board & demonstration tracks;
the surviving original GVT 2 Ton Yard Crane, now restored and positioned at the entrance to our Museum site;
the boiler, bunker and water tanks off a Baldwin ex-WDLR 4-6-0 Tank Locomotive;
a selection of other preserved narrow gauge wagons.
We are re-creating a little piece of the Glyn Valley Tramway in the village of Glyn Ceiriog as a reminder of the past, an educational experience and an attraction for visitors.
On your journey by road up the Ceiriog Valley, you will also pass by the original GVT waiting room buildings at Pontfadog and at Dolywern.
Gifts & Souvenirs:
We have a small shop in our Museum at Glyn Ceiriog selling a range of GVT-related gifts and souvenirs, all proceeds go towards the running of the Museum and our current projects.
